How to Manage your Moving?
Preparation
Hire an affordable Removalist
Moving day
- Get moving boxes from your local supermarket or any shop you go to buy your grocery and daily use items, people generally want to get rid of boxes and you can get them for free.
- People who moved recently post ads on Facebook and Gumtree like platforms for free box pickup to get rid of boxes.
- Labelling all you’re packed boxes accurately and clearly makes it easy for you to find them. When you’re stacking boxes in a van or car you won’t be able to see their tops, so make sure you label the sides not the top.
- Label your boxes by room or place that box belong to in your house. Use color-coded electrical tape to label your boxes, which is better way to visually categorize your boxes for unpacking after the move.
- Always use packing tape instead of Duct tape. Packing tape is the heavy-duty and stickier compared to Duct tape.
- If you’re relying on friends and family to help with your move, call them well in advance. Do the same with babysitters for your children.
- Pack up all your paintings and arts weeks before the moving day. It’s always tricky to store these items because they’re fragile and not in standard shapes, having extra time to thing about how to pack them is a good idea
Hire an affordable Removalist
- It is not cheaper to hire a Removalist but as there are too many Removalists in the market, if you look you can find a good Removalist at an affordable price.
- If you want to save money just go for basic service with your Removalist because it is always a cheaper option, but you have to pack and unpack your stuff by yourself. Before the moving day make sure you have packed everything up ready to go or they will cost you a lot more as they will charge by the hour.
- Treat your Removalists with respect, as it will go a long way. They are people like us and we all know small things matters a lot. Make sure they are fully insured for your peace of mind.
- Try to hire a local Removalist who has the knowledge about the area you living in for a quick transport.
- Don’t make the boxes too heavy. If you have lots of heavy items, spread them out over quite a few boxes. If a box is too heavy it is hard to move.
- Wrap glasses individually in paper and pack them between towels and clothes in the packing box. Make sure you mark the box as fragile.
- Put your bathroom items into individual plastic bags. Take the tops off the containers of shampoos, lotions, gels, and other liquids that could leak and spill and place plastic wrap over the hole and re-seal. Place soaps and other toiletries in a plastic bag
Moving day
- It would be a hassle to have to cook when everything around the home is still a mess. So, I recommend buying some quick and easy food items to consume during and after the move. You can buy things like snacks and energy drinks, if you have kids let them pack their own stuff. It will be a fun for kids and that way they get engage in doing something while you getting prepare for the moving day.
- Use your baskets, Plastic boxes, suitcases or anything in your house that can carry items to cut down on packing boxes.
- All your valuables like laptops, cell phones, smart watches or jewellery pack all of them in one bag that you can carry with you during the move. Your documents should be kept safely and it’s best to carry them with you as well.
